The GMR Group operating Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIAL) here has called for fresh bids to take over the management of duty-free shop at the airport with the present operator Nuance Group AG deciding to stop operations from May 31, a top official said. "The tenders would be finalised shortly to select the new operators. Efforts are on to complete the process by May 7. so that the new operator can commence operations by June," the official associated with the development told PTI. Nuance Group, which was awarded a seven-year contract in 2007announced sudden exit from the contract citing weak sales at the airport. "The duty free operations did not reach its full potential during the first year of operations.Further during mid 2009, two shops were closed due to non-clearance from the Customs department which further weakened sales," sources said.
